iOS 19 and iOS 20 to add many new features for EU users

The European Commission continues to expand the law on digital markets and to adjust the rules that Apple must follow the arrival of iOS 20. After having opened the ecosystem of the iPhone to third -party markets, third -party payments and other modifications, the EU wants that Apple continues to improve interoperability between its software and its third -party devices.

The European Commission has recently announced several decisions, including smart watches and third -party headsets will have to work with the iPhone, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro.

These are some of the changes that Apple will have to make in iOS 19 and iOS 20:

  • Non -apple intelligent watches must be able to receive push notifications, including images and the possibility of answering them – something that the pebble creator has complained when he announces his two new watches
  • The possibility of combining unconnected devices, such as headphones and smart watches, in a simpler way
  • Virtual reality headsets will benefit from better and faster data connections with iPhones
  • Integrate alternative solutions into the Airdrop and Airplay services

Apple will now have to add several new features for interactivity, data transfers, peripheral configuration and configuration while making everything that is clear to developers and users.

Most of these features must be available in beta version by the end of 2025, which means around the IOS 19.2 / iOS 19.3 test period. They will also have to be accessible to the public by June (iOS 19.4 / iOS 19.5) or the end of the year with iOS 20.1 / 20.2.

The functionality that will take the most time to be implemented is the possibility of offering an automatic audio passage from non -Paple devices, which is expected by June 2027, probably around the outlet of iOS 20.4 / 20.5.

The European Commission has a detailed document List all the new features that Apple will have to offer on iOS and iPados in the EU in the coming years. That said, some of these new features could possibly be made available for users around the world, because Apple has changed some of its policies on a global scale to correspond to those of the EU.

However, it is unlikely that Apple announces one of these features at WWDC 2025, because the company did not mention the DMA at the opening of last year.
