It’s only been a few months since Apple released the official version of iOS 18. Even though the dust hasn’t settled yet, it looks like they’re already working on the next version of iOS. A recent report now reveals that Apple is preparing a huge upgrade to the Camera app, and we might be bringing it to iOS 19 soon.
According to a video shared by Front Page TechnologyThe Camera app on iOS 19 will be getting a significant overhaul. Channel host Jon Prosser says he got to see the upcoming Camera app in action, but in order to protect the identity of its source, his team managed to recreate the experience from scratch.
The video reveals that the Camera app on iOS 19 can only have two tabs down – Photo and videoas opposed to multiple sections for Time-Lapse, Slo-mo, Cinematic, Portrait and Pano. The design could aim to make the interface minimal and more intuitive than its current presentation.
Tapping these tabs will bring up an expanded menu with additional options. So the Photo tab might present options like Depth, spatial, pan, style, aspect, exposure and timer. Likewise, the Video menu options will be different with items like Depth, spatial, slow motion, fast motion, action and exposure.
The menus themselves will benefit from some form of a translucent appearancewithout obstructing the contents inside the viewfinder. Additionally, the app will continue to offer additional controls at the top of the screen. You’ll be able to control the resolution and frame rate, and toggle flash and Live Photos options, similar to the current app.
The redesign of the Camera app on iOS 19 seems take notes on Apple’s visionOS. Prosser hints that these visual changes may not just focus on the Camera app. But we could see its large-scale adoption within iOS itself. If this turns out to be true, iOS 19 will certainly be a huge upgrade and the first major overhaul since iOS 7, one that ties the company’s established mobile operating system with the newer elements of its Vision Pro headset .
We’re still six months away from the iOS 19 announcement and a full nine months from its official launch. I therefore advise you to proceed with this development with a pinch of salt. Who knows if Apple even plans to continue working on its Vision Pro line, since it has already stopped production due to reduced demand. It’s also possible that these are reserved for internal testing and never even come to fruition.
What do you think about the supposed overhaul of the Camera app in iOS 19? Do you think Apple will make these changes this year? Let us know in the comments.
