iOS 19 Rumors: Redesigned Camera App, ChatGPT-Like Siri and More

iOS 19 is still about six months away from being revealed, but rumors about the next software update are already starting to pile up.

Below, we recap the iOS 19 rumors so far.

Redesigned camera app

A new leak has reportedly revealed a redesigned Camera app that comes with iOS 19.

On his Front Page Tech YouTube channel this week, Jon Prosser shared a video showing off what the new Camera app will apparently look like, with the key change being translucent menus for camera controls. Overall, the design of these menus resembles visionOS, the software platform for Apple’s Vision Pro headset.

More of the camera viewfinder is visible compared to iOS 18. Camera controls are divided into Photo and Video categories at the bottom of the app.

Camera controls include options to record spatial video, activate a timer for a photo, and much more. Additional controls for video resolution and frame rate appear at the top of the screen if necessary, depending on the video.

It’s unclear whether the alleged visionOS-like design changes will extend to other parts of the iOS 19 interface or to more of Apple’s built-in apps.

iOS 18 was rumored to feature design changes similar to VisionOS, but that never happened. Maybe the changes were for iOS 19 all along.

More ChatGPT-like Siri

iOS 19 will introduce a “more conversational Siri” powered by “more advanced language models,” according to BloombergIt’s Mark Gurman. This will make Siri more like ChatGPT, allowing the assistant to “handle more sophisticated requests.”

Apple will likely preview the revamped Siri when it announces iOS 19, but Gurman said it won’t be available until spring 2026. This suggests the feature will be released as part of iOS 19.4 in March or April next year.

Meanwhile, iOS 18.2 added ChatGPT integration with Siri, and Gurman expects an integration with Google’s Gemini to follow in a later update. And with iOS 18.4, Siri will get better on-screen visibility, better understanding of personal context, deeper per-app controls, and other upgrades. Don’t expect Siri to really become like ChatGPT until next year.

Tiered Features

A lot of new features coming with iOS 19 are expected to roll out in later versions, ranging from iOS 19.1 to iOS 19.4.

Compatible iPhones

According to the French site iPhoneSoft.fr, iOS 19 will be compatible with any iPhone capable of running iOS 18, which would mean the following models:

The oldest devices on this list are the iPhone XS, iPhone XS, and iPhone XR, all released in September 2018.

Of course, some features of iOS 19 will not be available on older iPhone models.

If this report is accurate, this would be the second year in a row that Apple has not dropped support for any iPhone models with its major annual iOS release. iOS 18 is compatible with the same iPhone models as iOS 17.

iOS 17 dropped support for iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.

Timing

The first beta versions of iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 are expected to be released at WWDC 2025 in June, and updates are expected to be released in September.
