If you manage to make it to the NBA as a player, you might find yourself playing against players you’ve always admired. And if you manage to stay in the league for a while and become good at it, you might even end up playing alongside them in the Olympics.
And that’s where Boston Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum currently finds himself, fresh off an NBA title with the team that drafted him in 2017. The St. Louis native recently opened up about what it’ll be like to play alongside some of his childhood idols on a recent episode of the Wave Sports and Entertainment Original podcast, “7 PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony and The Kid Mero.”
“I’ve been in a league for seven years, so I’ve played against all these guys and at this level and I’ve had to play (Kevin Durant) in the playoffs twice and (LeBron James), and I’ve played against Steph (Curry) in the Finals, so I have that level of appreciation for them,” he offered.
“Before I even got into the league, these were the guys I watched play and now that we’re on the same team, it’s like, ‘This sucks,’” he added. “We took pictures the other day and those three went to the side… and it’s like I have to step back and say, ‘These are three of the greatest players to ever play this game.’”
“We’re all teammates right now and we’re going to try to win a gold medal and I don’t know if it was the fan or the kid in me, but it was like man, this is awesome,” Tatum smiled.
“I’m on a team with KD, LeBron and Steph, even though I almost got in the building, I won the championship. I’m the man of the moment. But it was a cool moment to have those three on the team.”
