Jelly roll successfully completed his first 5k race on Tuesday, and the musician was thrilled and pumped!
THE Whitsitt Chapel artist participated in the 2 Bears 5K — organized by the 2 bears 1 cave podcast duo Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer as part of the Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival — and he spoke with ET’s Denny Directo about this impressive achievement.
“I couldn’t walk a mile when I started trying to do this in January,” Jelly Roll remembers. “So the fact that we got 3 points, whatever it was, did it, I felt really, really good.”
Jelly Roll explained that the 5K left him “really motivated” when it came to his own health journey, and revealed that he and Kreischer “were really emotional at the finish line.”
“I feel good, I’m a little tired,” he admitted. “It was a little harder than I thought (it was going to be), but it’s awesome, man.”
And preparing for the big 5K actually led to Jelly Roll losing an impressive amount of weight during her training. In fact, the singer said he lost a total of “between 50 and 70 pounds.”
For Jelly Roll, one of the most rewarding aspects of participating in the 5K is being able to serve as an inspiration to others.
“I think the coolest thing was how many people stopped to tell us that they were motivated by us, other great players,” he shared. “It was really cool to see that.”
He also marveled at the “eclectic group of people” who participated in the 2 Bears 5K, telling ET: “There was a man running in a bear costume, there were people drinking beers. .. there were also people setting personal records! “
Jelly Roll’s physical and mental health has been on many fans’ minds in recent weeks, after his wife, Bunnie XOrevealed that he had decided to take a step back from social networks because of the trolls who bullied her because of her weight.
When asked how he feels these days since taking some time off, Jelly Roll shared, “I feel amazing. I’m surrounded by friends and family.”
As for her future in running, Jelly Roll said: “Next year, a half marathon! We’re saying it now, absolutely!”
This year’s Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival will run until May 12.
