Kevin Costner just revealed that he and Princess Diana almost teamed up for an on-screen romance. During an appearance on The Howard Stern Showthe actor said they could have worked together on a sequel to his 1992 film with Whitney Houston The bodyguard. However, after her tragic death in 1997, the film was shelved and things became “ugly” with the royal family.
“It got a little ugly,” Costner said, according to ALL RIGHT“When Diana died, about a year later, it was revealed that I was preparing Bodyguard 2 with her.”

“And what happened was the royal family turned against me a little bit,” he continued. “Like, ‘No, that’s not true.’ And it got really ugly. And I let it go for a while. It got uglier and uglier.
The actor added that he even contacted the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, for advice on how to handle the situation. When she had just divorced Prince Andrew, she advised him to let it go, but he eventually spoke with the family.
“Finally, I called Sarah and said, ‘Sarah, you need to tell me who’s leading the charge out there on this.’ She says, “No, no, no, Kev, you don’t want to talk to them.” I said, “Yes, I do.” » I called them and said, ‘I’m telling you something, you need to stop, because it’s true.’ And if you don’t stop, I’ll start. Costner added that it was Ferguson who initially connected the actor with Diana for the film. Costner remembers contacting the princess and telling her he wanted her to be a part of it.
“She says, ‘Yes. My life is about to change.’ I didn’t really delve into it, but I thought I understood what she was saying,” he said, adding that they even planned to share an on-screen kiss. “She was very nice. The second time we talked, she said, “Is there going to be a kissing scene?” I said, “Do you want there to be one?” She said, “Yeah,” and I said, “Then we’ll do that.” I wasn’t going to make a big love story about him. But there would be a time when we would. And she was so nice about it.
Costner later discovered that Diana had a crush on him during the process. In an interview with PeopleCostner shared that Prince William made him aware of his late mother’s feelings during a meeting a few years ago.
“We met in this room, and it was just us,” he said. “He came over and we shook hands… The first thing that came out of his mouth was, ‘You know, my mother kind of loved you.'”
