Kyrie Irving pays tribute to his late mother, Elizabethon Mother’s Day this year, with special edition ANTA sneakers that pay homage to her “wisdom and protective spirit.”
The Chinese clothing company — which signed a contract with Irving shoe offer in July 2023 — announced Tuesday that the kicks would drop this weekend…and, as you can see, they feature a ton of tributes to the Mavericks star’s mother.
The shoe has the word “Mother” embroidered on the strap and heel pull tab…and her name is also emblazoned on the outsole.
ANTA officials said the colors and design also pay homage to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, of which Kyrie’s grandmother (Elizabeth’s biological mother) was a member.
“The new release pays homage to Elizabeth Irving, Kyrie’s mother, whose influence and legacy are woven into the very fabric of this special edition,” ANTA said in a statement.
Irving’s mother died after an illness when Kyrie was just four years old. She was only 29 years old.
Kyrie has spoken about this loss several times throughout his career…saying that not being able to do many firsts with her affected him.
“I never got to give my mom my NBA awards,” said Irving, who was raised most of his life by his father. Drederick. “I never got to hug my mom after a 40-point game.”
The special sneakers will be available in men’s sizes 8-13 and sold exclusively at Sneaker Room in New Jersey – for $125 each.
