Managing your budget while traveling abroad can be a headache, especially with foreign currencies and fluctuating exchange rates. But iPhone users can now use a currency converter built into the calculator app, a new feature in the iOS 18 update.
The feature, which has gone viral online, is being hailed as a “game changer” for international travel.

Thanks to Apple’s latest innovation, travelers no longer need to rely on external currency conversion apps, many of which require internet access.
Travel influencer @lifeofthetravelingpin shared her excitement on Instagram, describing it as a “crazy new update” that works without data. She explained: “You can now easily convert currencies directly from your phone, even when you don’t have an internet connection. » Other users echoed his enthusiasm, with one commenting: “This is literally the most useful thing I’ve ever seen on Instagram.”
How to use the iPhone currency converter
- Open the calculator app on your iPhone.
- Tap the calculator icon button in the lower left corner.
- Enable “convert” and select the desired currency by clicking on the currency abbreviation, then select it from a menu at the top.
- Enter a value in either field to see real-time conversions.
The currency converter is available on iPhones compatible with iOS 18, released in September 2024. Unfortunately, older models are not supported, so check the compatibility list below before trying the feature.
