The Boston Celtics are set to face the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals and will be heavily favored to win this series. Assuming Boston advances to the NBA Finals, this will be their second trip there in the last three seasons, having lost to the Golden State Warriors in 2022 before being one win away from another appearance in the final of the last playoff series.
Although this era of Celtics basketball has yet to produce a championship, this group consistently produces deep playoff runs. That said, anything less than a title would be considered a disappointment for this Celtics group. If they fail to achieve this goal again, could changes be afoot?
In a recent article by Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, a hypothetical trade between Paul George and Jaylen Brown was proposed. George would have to opt out of the final year of his contract with the LA Clippers for such a deal to be possible, which is already an unlikely scenario, but Buckley detailed the following rationale for all parties:
“George would adapt effortlessly to Boston, partly because he adapts easily anywhere, partly because he would do much of what Brown already does. Brown may be the better scorer at this point, but George has superior shooting touch from distance and is a more consistent defender Neither team would come out of this deal in a drastically different spot, but perhaps each would want to see if the star swingman. the other would suit them better.
While the Clippers and Celtics could look to make changes this summer, such a deal seems as close to impossible as possible.
