Man United are closing in on the appointment of Dan Ashworth and are still hoping to secure his arrival this summer. sources told Football Insider.
The Red Devils could see a breakthrough in negotiations with Newcastle United in the near future as they prepare to appoint Crystal Palace transfer chief Dougie Freedman as his replacement.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (May 13) that official news of the 49-year-old’s arrival from Newcastle could arrive shortly after the end of the 2023-24 campaign, which is within days.
The deal will pave the way for Ashworth, who was placed on gardening leave in February, to complete his move to Man United under the new INEOS regime.
The two clubs have been in dispute over compensation since agreeing terms with United – and it was widely reported that Newcastle were demanding up to £20 million.

But the Magpies are expected to relent in negotiations and agree to a lower fee for the transfer guru.
Ashworth’s contract at St James’ Park is expected to last until June 2026.
