NEW YORK — New York 4th of July Fireworks is back on the Hudson River tonight for the first time in more than a decade.
We’ve got everything you need to know about when it starts, how long it will last, and the best places to watch the fireworks in both New York and New Jersey — plus what to expect weather wise and what street closures you should know about.

What time do the 4th of July fireworks start in New York?
The Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks show is scheduled to begin at 9:25 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, about an hour after sunset.
The fireworks display usually lasts about 30 minutes and is expected to end shortly before 10 p.m.
Best Places to Watch New York’s 4th of July Fireworks
The fireworks will be launched from barges located on the Hudson Riveras the show returns to Manhattan’s West Side for the first time in more than a decade. The barges will be set up between West 14th and West 34th Streets.
Macy’s recommends viewing from the following locations in New York City:
- Christopher Street and Washington Street (ADA access available)
- West 11th Street and Washington Street
- 12th Street West and Washington Street
- 29th Street West and 11th Avenue
- West 40th Street and 11th Avenue (ADA access available at West 41st St.)
The NYPD announced additional street closures for cars and pedestrians.
People looking across the river in New Jersey will have the best view from:
- Pier A Park
- Stevens Park
- Elysian Park
- Maxwell Place Park
Parking will be limited around the viewing areas, so organizers recommend taking public transportation. Subways and MTA buses will run with increased service before and after the event.
In Jersey City, many roads will be closed throughout the day. The primary public viewing area will be on Montgomery Street and Christopher Columbus Drive. Other streets in the area will be reserved for residents and emergency personnel.
Coney Island will also host its annual July 4th fireworks show at 9:45 p.m. at Steeplechase Park.

- The Grucci Family’s Stars Over Montauk exhibit will take place at 9:15 p.m. at Umbrella Beach.
- And of course, there’s the annual July 4 fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. at Jones Beach. Organizers say this year’s show is inspired by “Barbie,” Beyoncé and Taylor Swift.
