META prohibits Apple’s AIA tools from its applications, triggering a new technological war

Apple Apple’s deployment of Apple with iOS 18 was a long and tiring waiting for everything. Initially promised during WWDC, the company took six months to deploy features.

IOS 18.1 has brought new features such as writing tools to iPhones and iPads, allowing users to rewrite, put the reading and summarize the text on most applications in October 2024.

However, a technology giant has decided to close the door on the integration of Apple AI. Meta has a deactivated care for Apple Intelligence in all its iOS applications – including WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and Threads – in favor of promoting its own Meta AI capabilities.

Although Apple Intelligence has been widely available since the launch of iOS 18.1, Meta applications now block some of its main features.

The Brazilian blog Sorcererhat Tech He first reported that the writing tools, which generally appear when users support a text field, no longer work in one of Meta’s iOS applications.

This means that features such as rewriting, proofreading and formatting are completely inaccessible on platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram.

Beyond the writing tools, Meta also stripped the management of Genmoji, the emoji generated by Apple Ai-Ai.

Users can no longer access keyboard stickers or Memoji in Instagram Stories, which was previously possible. On the other hand, many other popular third -party applications such as Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) always take care of Apple’s intelligence functions.

Meta looks into her own IA ecosystem

Although Meta has not published an official declaration explaining the decision, this decision seems deliberate. Meta has widened its internal AI offers and now promotes them directly inside its applications.

When users create an Instagram publication, they could see a banner “Writing with Meta Ai” which offers text suggestions generated by AI. According to Meta, its AI can recognize visual elements such as people, food or pets in downloaded media and suggest appropriate legends accordingly.

This strategy reflects Meta’s push to build and maintain commitment in its own ecosystem. “Writing with Meta Ai” serves as a direct competitor to the native writing tools of Apple, offering similar features such as rewriting and publishing.

The company seems determined to keep users away from external AI services, even if they are built directly in iOS.

The history of Apple and Meta

Tensions between Apple and Meta are not new. A Wall Street Journal The report revealed that the two companies had discussed a potential partnership to bring the Meta Llama language model to Apple Intelligence.

However, Apple would have moved away from the agreement due to disagreements on privacy policies. This disagreement reflects their current battles on the rules of the App Store and the confidentiality standards.

The last iOS 18.4 update of Apple has expanded Apple Intelligence to more regions.

However, iPhone users in these areas cannot still access these features in Meta applications. Instead, they are locked in the use of Meta AI even if they prefer Apple’s tools.

Meanwhile, Meta is faced with an increasing regulatory examination. The Federal Trade Commission accused the company of having tried to monopolize the space of social media.

According to the FTC, Meta used a “buy or bury” strategy, acquiring competitors like Instagram and WhatsApp to remove threats rather than competing with them.

For the moment, Meta users on iOS will have to rely on Meta IA for integrated help, because Apple Intelligence remains absent from some of the most used platforms in the world.
