MidAmerican’s outage map shows 70 Des Moines metro customers affected by the power outage at 9:10 p.m.
DES MOINES, Iowa — Some MidAmerican Energy customers are without power Tuesday evening.
MidAmerican’s outage map shows 70 Des Moines metro customers affected by the power outage as of 9:10 p.m. Earlier in the evening, more than 1,500 customers were without power.
The majority of outages are located near the King Irving, Kirkwood Glen and Mondamin Presidential neighborhoods.
The map originally stated that the outage was caused by “a tree coming into contact with electrical installations.” However, MidAmerican representatives say no power lines have been cut. Instead, they believe a lightning strike caused the outage.
Crews are currently en route to the scene. Estimated dining time is 10:30 p.m.
Des Moines police issued a warning on X regarding the outage, urging residents to be safe on the roads.
“Remain vigilant when approaching intersections as traffic signals may be affected,” the agency wrote.
