CHOCTAW, Miss. (WTOK) – Mississippi State outfielder Dakota Jordan was presented with the 2024 Ferriss Trophy at a luncheon Monday.
The Ferriss Trophy is awarded to the best college baseball player in the state of Mississippi.
The second-year outfielder is batting .363 this year with 17 homers and 61 RBIs.
Jordan was one of five finalists, Brett Sanchez of Bellhaven University, Ethan Lege of Ole Miss, RJ Stinson of William Carey and Dalton McIntyre of Southern Miss were the other four finalists.
“It’s quite big. I mean Jake Mangum, Tanner Allen and all those guys, they blazed the trail and led the way. They won the prize. To be nominated for this award and to be here, it’s a blessing,” Jordan said.
Jordan was also named second team All-SEC on Monday, as the Bulldogs begin their postseason on Tuesday.
“He is our spark plug. You know, when he plays well, we usually play very well. He does so many things for you. He plays very well in defense, he steals, he has power and he hits average. He’s a true five-tool guy, so he’s brought that to the team all year long, and we’re looking forward to him here in the playoffs,” said Bulldogs head coach, Chris Lemonis.
Jordan is the eighth Diamond Dawg to win this award, and Mississippi State leads all Mississippi colleges with eight Ferriss Trophies.
