More severe storms and flooding expected today and this weekend

Friday forecast:

Overnight, another round of heavy rain, lightning, high winds and hail returned to Southeast Texas. The bad news about this morning’s storms is that the heaviest rain is falling on the same areas where we had flooding yesterday. It is also decreasing where we currently have river flood warnings. This will create more flooding problems today. Simply put, we are in a flood situation. More storms are expected tomorrow with the possibility of two more episodes of heavy rain on Sunday.

Several rivers are in flood. The Trinity River is causing major flooding along the East Fork of the San Jacinto. There are other rivers that are also overflowing. You can see our feed status below or check out our Flood Tracker app.

Flood monitoring:

The flood watch has been extended until 7 p.m. Friday. Please stay informed about the weather. Our soil is saturated so the rain takes time to drain. This leads to flooding in the streets. Excessive runoff creates additional flooding in rivers, streams and creeks.

Saturday forecast:

Another line of severe thunderstorms is possible Saturday morning. This could lead to more flooding in parts of Southeast Texas.

Sunday’s forecast:

We may have two more storms on Sunday.

10-day forecast:

Next week we head into warmer weather with our first 90° day of the year expected. It is also possible for a cool front to move through Friday. This would bring dry air (low humidity) and a slightly lower temperature.
