New Delhi (India): After taking over as chairman of the Professional Golf Tour of India, former World Cup-winning Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev said a lot more responsibility will now fall on his shoulders.

Much more responsibility on my shoulders: Kapil Dev after taking over as PGTI chairman

Earlier on Thursday, Kapil Dev took over as president of PGTI. The development marks a new chapter for the PGTI, the governing body for men’s professional golf in India.

Speaking to ANI, Kapil Dev said that he felt very happy after being appointed as the PGTI chairman. He added that they have to ensure that the players get to play more matches.

“I am very happy, I have a lot more responsibilities on my shoulders. Now I have to make sure that all the players know that we can take care of them and give them more golf, so it’s more responsibility now,” said Kapil Dev.

He also asked the business world to come and organize their tournaments with the PGTI.

“That’s what we like to do. You see, in the winter, there are a lot of corporate gold tournaments happening all over the country and I would say a similar thing should happen for the PGTI high-level gold tournaments. However, it’s a trap… we would ask more companies to come and try to organize their own tournaments with PGTI,” he added.

Earlier, PGTI CEO Uttam Singh Mundy said that they were honoured to have Indian sports icon Kapil Dev as the president of the organisation.

“We are confident that PGTI will scale new heights under the able leadership of Kapil Dev as his name is synonymous with excellence in sports. His valuable experience as a professional sportsman and accomplished golfer will be an asset to the PGTI, paving the way for the future growth of Indian professional golf. We wish Kapil Dev all the best,” Uttam said, according to a statement.

Kapil Dev, who also excelled as an amateur golfer, has been the Vice President and Member of the Governing Council of PGTI for the last three years and has played a pivotal role in the formation and development of Indian professional golf along with the core team of PGTI.
