Nearly 30 students from North Carolina State University report that artificial intelligence has been used to produce sexually explicit images featuring their photos, according to a research mandate.
The search warrant dated November 1, 2024 indicates that a student reported to the NC state police only “obscene” photographs of her and other students were discovered earlier on Erome.com , a website that allows users to share pornographic images and videos.
The student said that the images were generated by computer, adding that women illustrated on the website had not created or shared the images, depending on the mandate.
NC police police received reports from 28 women in total who said their photos had been used without consent. According to the mandate, many images “portray the face of women artificially imposed on naked women performing sexual acts”.
Many targets were members of the sorority, depending on the mandate, and a file on the erome.com website was labeled “NC State” and “College Sorority S ****”. The files even included some of the names of the victims.
The research mandate requests access to the e-mail addresses associated with the EROME.com account, the Cloud and the location data, and all the images that the user has stored or downloaded.
A spokesperson for the state of NC said that the investigation was active and in progress.
Following the reports, NC State Sent a letter with links and resourcesIncluding counseling sessions, to all women affected.
Tuesday, the university published the following declaration:
