According to a report from Daily economic newsquoting Chinese media Jiemian NewsXiaomi is working on building its own 10,000 GPU cluster and is currently investing heavily in large AI models. The company established its large AI model team in April 2023, with 1,200 R&D staff led by CEO Lei Jun. At that time, Xiaomi had already demonstrated a substantial commitment to AI development, with access to 6,500 GPUs, as noted in the report.

In May 2024, Xiaomi announced that its large language model “MiLM” officially met the filing requirements for large models. Furthermore, Lei Jun previously said that Xiaomi’s smart voice assistant, XiaoAi, has 120 million active devices per month, as cited in the Economic Daily News report.

In August 2023, Zeng Xuezhong, Senior Vice President of Xiaomi Group and President of the Mobile Phone Department, revealed that based on their in-depth technical cooperation with Qualcomm and MediaTek, Xiaomi will soon launch large-scale AI applications .

According to Jiemian News, Lei Jun emphasized a strategic focus on the development of mobile phones rather than alternative hardware solutions such as glasses, highlighting Xiaomi’s full commitment in this direction.

During his 2023 annual speech, Lei Jun announced that Xiaomi had successfully conducted mobile phone demos with large built-in models. The report notes that these models, operating with 1.3 billion parameters, achieved cloud-like performance in some scenarios. Additionally, the company has also developed a more extensive model reaching 6 billion parameters.

Lei Jun said that Xiaomi formed its first visual AI team in 2016 and created a large team dedicated to large models in April 2023.
