Vote totals for key Oregon state and Portland-area races from Secretary of State to County Commissioner.
PORTLAND, Ore. — Tuesday marks Election Day for Oregon’s 2024 primaries, where most races will determine which candidates from each party will compete in the November general election. In some local races, a candidate can win the election.
The results of the first round will be published shortly after the deadline for submitting ballots, set for 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Hotly contested races include the Democratic primaries for Oregon’s 3rd and 5th congressional districts, the Multnomah County district attorney race, the Oregon secretary of state primaries and the county commissioner races in the Multnomah and Clackamas counties.
The results below are not definitive; Ballots will continue to be counted and the story will be updated as new vote totals are received.
The American President
The winners of Oregon’s presidential primary are unlikely to be a surprise. Incumbent President Joe Biden is running for re-election on the Democratic ticket, and former President Donald Trump is unopposed in Oregon on the Republican ticket.

Congress
Due to the impending retirement of Congressman Earl Blumenauer after 22 years in office, the race in Oregon’s 3rd Congressional District is wide open. Meanwhile, the race for the 6th Congressional District is shaping up to be competitive as Democrats try to field a candidate who can take over the relatively new seat from incumbent Republican Congresswoman Lori Chavez-Deremer.
U.S. House, 3rd District – Democratic
This is a primary behind closed doors. The winner of this race will become the Oregon Democratic Party’s nominee for 3rd District U.S. Representative on the November ballot.
US House 3rd District – Republican
This is a primary behind closed doors. The winner of this race will become the Oregon Republican Party’s nominee for 3rd District U.S. Representative on the November ballot.
US House 5th District – Democratic
This is a primary behind closed doors. The winner of this race will become the Oregon Democratic Party’s nominee for U.S. Representative for the 5th District on the November ballot.
US House 5th District – Republican
This is a primary behind closed doors. The winner of this race will become the Oregon Republican Party’s nominee for U.S. Representative for the 5th District on the November ballot.
Oregon
Secretary of State – Democrat
This is a primary behind closed doors. The winner of this race will become the Oregon Democratic Party’s nominee for secretary of state on the November ballot. Incumbent LaVonne Griffin-Valade was appointed on an interim basis to replace Secretary of State-elect Shemia Fagan following her resignation. Griffin-Valade is not running to keep the job.
Secretary of State – Republican
This is a primary behind closed doors. The winner of this race will become the Oregon Republican Party’s nominee for secretary of state on the November ballot.
This is a primary behind closed doors. The winner of this race will become the Oregon Democratic Party’s nominee for treasurer on the November ballot. Incumbent President Tobias Read is not seeking re-election to this position, but is instead running for Secretary of State.
This is a primary behind closed doors. The winner of this race will become the Oregon Republican Party’s nominee for treasurer on the November ballot.
Attorney General – Democrat
This is a primary behind closed doors. The winner of this race will become the Oregon Democratic Party’s nominee for attorney general on the November ballot. Incumbent Ellen Rosenblum is not seeking re-election.
Attorney General – Republican
This is a primary behind closed doors. The winner of this race will become the Oregon Republican Party’s nominee for attorney general on the November ballot.
Multnomah County
This year, the position of Multnomah County Prosecutor and four positions on the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners are up for grabs. Incumbent District Attorney Mike Schmidt is running for re-election and Commissioner Julia Brim-Edwards is seeking re-election for her seat in District 3. The other three commission positions are open.
All of these races are nonpartisan. If a candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, they will win their seat. If no one succeeds, the first two in the race will qualify for the second round in November.

Clackamas County
Three positions on the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners are up for election this year, including the position of at-large chairman. Incumbent Tootie Smith is running for re-election, as are Commissioners Martha Schrader and Mark Shull.
