Overnight storms delay classes and flood roads around Southeast Texas

Many Southeast Texas school districts have delayed the start of classes following a series of severe storms that passed through Southeast Texas overnight and into Monday morning.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A line of severe thunderstorms moved across Southeast Texas overnight, moving southeast from the Lakes Region to the Gulf Coast. Many area school districts delayed the start of the school year, and Jefferson County delayed the opening of polls for early voting in municipal elections. Several roads in the area were covered in water and some were closed.

Showers and thunderstorms this morning will give way to mostly cloudy skies this afternoon. The rest of the week will be marked by a series of altitude disturbances crossing the area with risks of daily rain.
