“The Simpsons” killed off a longtime character this week, sparking shock and outrage among fans … and one producer says he expects no less from the show’s diehards.
Tim Longco-executive producer of the long-running animated sitcom, told TMZ…that the creative team wanted the death of Larry “The Barfly” Dalrymple to hit audiences hard – even though Dalrymple never had a big moment in the series.
ICYMI… Larry was a background character in the series, first appearing in 1989 during season 1, and primarily appearing in Moe’s Tavern near Homer Simpson and his friends. He occasionally throws in a line or two.
Long says Larry’s role doesn’t matter because “Simpsons” characters don’t die often…so it’s a big deal when they do.
Tim adds that he’s sorry for those fans who are upset about the death and the sad episode in general… but he says he likes that the fans seem to be taking it as hard as Homer and the gang did during the episode – because it speaks to how beloved the series still is.
Plus, Long jokes that “Flintstones” fans wouldn’t have batted an eyelid if the show had killed off the reviled character, The Great Gazoo…so, it’s good to know that fans all care. characters who make Springfield what it is.
That said, Long tells people to stop panicking – because it’s not like they killed off a major character like Barney or Moe!!!
While it might take some time for fans to get over this cartoon death, at least one person behind the “Simpsons” couldn’t be happier about it.
