Daniel Ahmad, Director of Research and Insights, Niko Partners, Tweet Said “This is more indicative of Sony’s current thinking on its next-generation approach.” “If the new digital version does gain traction, and we see digital software sales continue to grow, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony adds Digital Plus to the default options for the next generation.”

Ampere gaming industry analyst Piers Harding-Rolls Add to: “Due to the ability to upgrade the new digital version of PS5, Ampere expects total sales of this version to be larger than previous versions. Ampere data shows that the sales share of the digital version is as high as “As of the end of June 2023, this figure is only 16% . Gamers who purchase digital versions of their consoles will drive more sales of digital games through the PlayStation Store. This will generate more store revenue for Sony and support its profit margin targets.”
