Tecno had all the projection at the MWC 2025. The company launched its new camon 40 series with a ton of new AI features, has unveiled new AI glasses that will face Smart Ray-Ban glasses and even have a new PC powered by Snapdragon Léger. However, the company also has a number of concepts to show that make our current phones that have been boring in comparison.
Of course, the most interesting concepts we have seen from Tecno are devices like the multi-color phantom Ultimate 2 and the SLIM SLIM SPARK Spark. This is not what I am referring to, even if they give us a good idea of where Tecno wants to go. These are the other concepts that enthusiastic about what our phones could look like in the near future.
Alternative materials
Several dummy models were made using various materials, the idea being to use durable or renewable options for telephone conceptions. Among them, there was a model with a back made using core of coconut. This is the outer shell of a coconut which is generally used to make various products such as floor mats, mattresses and other things. He does not smell the coconut, but it is a firm alternative to the glass which looks very clean and which feels good by hand.
At the opposite end, Tecno had a model based on used coffee grounds. It makes sense because Transtion, the parent company of Tecno, has a coffee company in China, and what better way to bring both of them?
Regarding design, it may not be as attractive as the Coco black, but it looks completely unique and could appeal to anyone who likes the more raw look. In addition, it actually smells quite good, and it comes from someone who does not like coffee. Imagine how good it would be to have a little starting in a quick puff on your phone!
In addition, Tecno had a phone made with a multicolored fibergall first of the industry. For this, Tecno used a jacquard weaving technique, the end result being a phone that looks like diamonds. In fact, the company used what looks like a jewel instead of the red light next to the cameras and the “o” in “Camon”. It is a rather surprising design that can give any superior quality phone.
Change things
Tecno’s concepts are not only to use alternative materials. The company also wants to give us the freedom to change the appearance of our phones. This concept evidence was probably my favorite of the group, because they added a little dynamic nature to the conceptions.
Among these devices were a series of phones that use photochromic cellulose acetate, which allows the rear lid to change the color when exposed to UV light. The company had three installed phones, which all seemed quite normal at first glance. But when a representative shone a UV light on them, they have all changed color: a blue, a pink and a green.
Although I don’t expect anyone to carry a UV light around, I can only imagine how cool it could be to change my phone every time I will go out.
The concept that uses the display of electronic suspension technology (from), as seen above. It essentially transforms the rear panel of a phone into a video player with a high DPI and cooling rate, although it reminds me a lot of an ENK E screen. However, it was pretty cool to see the phones flashing with different images, and I imagine that you could take off your phone with the conceptions you want, by matching things to match your mood, your outfit and more.
And, of course, I cannot forget the star optical fiber of Tecno. The company has unveiled this in CES and integrated it into the Phantom V Flip 2, incorporating ultra-fine optical fibers and LED lights in a rear cover for smartphone. The result is a very out of the world that can change between four different modes, and Tecno says that it does not enter the battery life.
What is the next step for phones?
The design of smartphones has become quite boring lately, with the best Android phones such as variations in glass and aluminum slabs, and the only way to stand out is with a unique selection of colors or a bizarre camera design. Do not look further than any Samsung phone if you want an indication of how some of the most popular phones have thrown into the design towel.
Fortunately, we are starting to see more companies change things with materials like vegan leather and ceramics. The Tecno Spark Slim has a stainless steel back which seems to have come out of a Nubian vessel from Star Wars, with a camera bar which brings the entire house back with LED lights that take place between the two cameras on each side.
Unlike the era of stupid phones when companies like Nokia could launch the most ridiculous designs (lipstick telephone, anyone?), The modern smartphones era does not have the luxury of particularly unique designs. Seeing how far Tecno will give our panel phones a new lease on life gives me the hope that the design of smartphones can one day be exciting again.
