Tesla boosts Android support with new and improved features

Tesla is boosting support for Android with new and improved features, something many who use the operating system want to see as Apple users continue to take priority.

Typically, Tesla owners using iPhones and the iOS operating system were the first to benefit from new features, while Android users benefited from these changes later.

In September, Tesla showed that it was trying to increase the capabilities of Android devices and their compatibility with vehicles.

Tesla is now preparing to beef up its app on Android phones with a new feature and an improvement to another.

The new and improved features come from the company adding ultra-wideband support to Android devices, which limited the app’s capabilities and its ability to communicate with vehicles.

These features are on the way and are not yet available on Android devices.

Not a Tesla app I first recognized the new features:

Phone key improvements

The addition of ultra-wideband support helps improve the efficiency and accuracy of the device’s ability to determine vehicle position and distance.

This will make it more accurate and provide better functionality for Android users.

Hands-free trunk opening

Tesla will also add an automatic trunk and trunk opening feature with the new software update, which is enabled by UWB upgrades.

Tesla has just improved its operation with a simple gesture

This will be possible by remaining two seconds behind the car. The trunk will open when the vehicle recognizes the position of the phone key behind it.

These modifications will be compatible with these vehicles:

  • Tesla Model 3 2024 and later
  • Tesla Model S 2021 and later
  • Tesla Model X 2021 and later
  • Tesla Cybertruck
