This coming weekend, motorists will need to plan ahead as one of Lafayette’s busiest bridges will be closed for maintenance.
Ambassador Caffery Bridge
The Ambassador Caffery Bridge, spanning the Vermilion River in Lafayette, Louisiana, was completed and opened to traffic in 1987.
The bridge was built to help reduce traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the growing Lafayette neighborhood at that time.
The bridge is named after Ambassador Jefferson Caffery, who had a distinguished diplomatic career, serving in various countries including Egypt, France and Brazil. Naming the bridge after him honors his contributions and legacy.
The Ambassador Caffery Bridge will close on Sunday June 9, 2024
DOTD announced that next Sunday, June 9, 2024, the Ambassador Caffery Bridge will be closed for 4 hours to allow crews to perform routine maintenance repairs to the bridge.
Closure is possible if weather permits.
The planned closure is expected to take place between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
