The 12th annual fundraising concert series called The Event is set to return to Hard Rock Live at Wheatland on July 13.
John Cassidy, organizer and former CEO of Sierra Central Credit Union, said country music star and Yuba City native Tyler Rich is once again headlining the concert with former Temecula Road band member Dawson Anderson as the opening act.
While Rich is expected to play a few new songs in addition to his usual hits, Anderson is expected to play one of his recently released new solo songs.
“His band was incredible last year,” Cassidy said of Anderson’s performance at The Event in 2023.
But Rich will once again be the highlight of the show, Cassidy said.
“Tyler feels committed to the community. He’s passionate about animal rights,” Cassidy said. “He loves coming home. He’s looking forward to this show because he’s got a lot of new songs and of course his old favorites. Northern California loves Tyler Rich and Tyler Rich loves Northern California. He loves playing hard rock.”
It was that connection to animal welfare that prompted Cassidy to include the Yuba and Sutter County K-9 Association in the event’s proceeds. Primarily a fundraising effort, the event will also benefit the Trauma Intervention Program, known as TIP.
According to its website, “TIP provides immediate emotional and practical support to survivors of tragedy. Local residents are trained to be TIP responders and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to assist law enforcement, firefighters, paramedics, deputy coroners and hospital staff.”
Cassidy said the Enterprise Community Fund will also receive a portion of the proceeds from this year’s concert.
“This year we added Enterprise because they do a lot and want to do more. The goal is to take it to the next level,” Cassidy said.
Since the event began, Cassidy said about $300,000 has been distributed to organizations in the Yuba-Sutter community.
“We started years ago because we felt like every year there were charities that were being overlooked by the community,” Cassidy said. “We wanted to raise money for great programs that don’t always get adequate funding.”
The July 13 show at Hard Rock Live in Wheatland is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Cassidy said tickets are still available for those interested in attending. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit casino.hardrock.com/sacramento.
“We’re excited. We have great sponsors again, local businesses that are participating,” Cassidy said. “We want to see Yuba-Sutter come in mid-July, indoors and have a great time. It’s a win-win. It’s a great event.”
