Huntington, W.VA. (WSAZ) -The FBI sensitizes fraud to cryptography thanks to the level of the operation.
Cryptocurrency has climbed popularity in recent years, but the growing market has been targeted by crooks.
FBI agents and specially trained secret services identify the victims who are actively defrauded.
Special agents now explain how to submit a report to federal police, while providing mental health resources to help victims treat the benefits of these crimes.
Deputy Deputy Director James Barnacle of the criminal investigation division said that FBI intensifies to protect the public.
“The cryptocurrencies have revolutionized the financial world,” said Barnacle. “This growing sector has also attracted malicious actors seeking to exploit individuals and organizations for personal purposes. They cause unprecedented financial and psychological difficulties for Americans. »»
Since the start of the “level level”, the FBI has informed more than 4,300 victims in the United States and abroad.
In 2023, there were 1,348 complaints of crypto diagrams in Ohio. There were 427 in Kentucky and 213 in Virginia-Western.
Seventy-six percent of the victims did not know that they were fraud.
Barnacle said most of the victims are between 30 and 60 years old.
He also said most of the victims are warned in technology.
