The next Android update finally brings this iOS security function to your smartphone

One of the best new iOS features – and the one I wanted for a long time for my Android devices – finally arrives on Android. Finally, your Android device will automatically restart if you do not unlock it for three days, offering a significant boost and confidentiality.

Google finally deploys the automatic device restart function

As indicated for the first time by 9TO5GOOGLEGoogle brings this new safety feature to Android in its next Google play update 25.14.

According to Google’s update notes, updating reading services “allows future optional safety functionality, which will automatically restart your device if it is locked for 3 consecutive days”.

It is really a significant boost. Automatic restart refers your Android device to what is known as a state “before the first unlocking (BFU)”. This means that your device and its content are fully encrypted and therefore, much more difficult to access if your Android device falls into bad hands.

Basically, if someone enters your phone or you forget, you have a minimum more security than before. However – and I answer this in the next section – the reduced time to massively increase the safety offered by this functionality.

Now, although this is ideal for owners of Android devices, iOS users have had access to similar feature from iOS 18.1 (the same iOS update that launched Apple Intelligence). The new Android safety feature is very similar to the existing iOS tool.

Personalization will make automatic restart more secure

I appreciate new Android safety like the next person, but some additional features would be really useful here.

For example, three days is a decent time for automatic restart to secure the device. However, it would be excellent if it was customizable at specific time of time. The reduction in the reset period would increase safety, allowing you to adjust yourself according to your situation and your environment.

Another really useful feature is notifications. A notification sent to a linked device that your main Android device (or what was) automatically reset would be extremely useful. It could also be associated with a unlocking code, a spindle or a biometric on the paired device.

Finally, it is not difficult to know if this update of the Google Play service will also apply to other Android devices. It is certain to appear on smartphones and tablets, but there is no official information concerning Google TV, wear, etc.

Of course, this is just Android security function. There are many tips that you can use to ensure the safety of your Android devices, which are best used in combination.
