My favorite moments with Apple cards are when I do not go physically, but rather to browse the application and record new places to visit. And an iOS 18 upgrade made this experience better than ever.
Navigation is my favorite hobby in apple cards
Apple Maps meets two main needs for users:
- get you from point A to B
- And help you discover places to go
This first objective, of course, must be well done. Errors in location data are what put the Apple cards in major problems during its beginnings.
But the vast majority of my own cards used involve time at home.
I am lying in my bed, or I sit on the sofa, and I sail on a district or a particular area where I plan a visit.
Sometimes this is done by necessity. For example, if I know that I will travel somewhere and I want to know what’s going on at the hotel.
Most of the time, however, I just travel for fun.
I want to see what exists, what I miss and the MAP application is my virtual discovery method.
I live in Manhattan, a relatively small place but absolutely packed with places to explore.
And in iOS 18, Maps added a functionality that made this exploration easier than ever.
The new IOS 18 backup button for places
When you consult a place inside the Apple cards, iOS 18 added a small backup button (+) in the upper right corner next to the Share and “X” icons.
Hitting “+” does two things:
- He save the place at your library
- It also makes the place most important On the advancing card
A simple button with two major effects.
Your library is always easily accessible inside the application, and it is a quick way to browse all the places you want to check later.
But the latter of these two advantages had even more impact for me.
With a quick tap of the +button, I can continue to navigate the card and stay easily aware of all the places I have already saved. They are easy to come back every time I need it, which makes the card more personalized to my interests.
The previous versions of the Apple cards had a guides function which had a similar effect. But that required more steps, more organization and lacked some of the new library tools available now.
I used a lot of guides before iOS 18, but now I receive most of the same advantages with less effort and mental planning.
Thanks to Apple Maps’ “New” + “button, save places while I travel and revisit them later has never been faster or easier.
