Google calls the new functionality cloud compilation. Android Authority, who I first discovered this tip In the code for a beta version of Android 16, plunges into the technical details of the new functionality, but here is how it works in short.

When you install an application, your phone processes parts of the code (Artefacts files) to ensure that the application runs properly. This can take some time, especially on an older device with a less powerful processor. With the Cloud compilation in Android 16, you will get the application and the artifacts treated at the same time.

This is a larger file size, but it is also a shorter installation time. New or headlight phones may not notice a large part of the difference, but the change should be visible on the oldest or lowest, especially on the largest games or applications.

Since this increases the data you need to download, it may not be an excellent option if you have a slower internet connection than usual or if you are concerned about data ceilings.

The functionality is not yet live, explains Android Authority, because Google probably needs a little more time to configure the Play Store to properly generate these artifacts instead of installation files.

We don’t know much about what’s going on with Android 16, but Google has revealed a little. We know that live updates, a new style of notification in progress, as well as Google Wallet improvements, the management of advanced video codecs, upgrades of camera software, new health surveillance tools, etc.

It is likely that we will learn more about Android 16 in Google I / S next month.
