Tornado hits building near Lincoln, injuring three people

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Three people were injured Friday when a tornado struck an industrial building near Lincoln.

Lancaster County Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said Garner Industries, which is on Highway 6 between Lincoln and Waverly, has collapsed.

Seventy people were trapped inside, he said. They have all since been rescued.

The three injured people were transported to area hospitals.

Bryan Health said it was treating two patients on its west campus. Both patients are being triaged, the hospital said.

Matthew Rojas said he watched the tornado from a mile away as it struck Garner Industries.

“I’ve never seen anything this close before,” he said.

Rojas was on his way home when he saw the funnel clouds.

“I started following their path,” he said. “They were moving pretty quickly.”

He observed debris flying around the highway.

“It was crazy,” he said. “There was a tractor-trailer dumped on the highway right in front of us.”

Houchin confirmed a tractor-trailer overturned on Interstate 80. It’s unclear if anyone was injured.
