Two Penn State alumni set for NBA Summer League

The Penn State men’s basketball program has two former players on NBA rosters for the Summer League, which is set to begin Friday in Las Vegas. Two members of the Nittany Lions’ 2022-23 NCAA Tournament team, Jalen Pickett And Andrew Funk both landed on their respective teams’ NBA Summer League rosters.

All 30 NBA teams will be represented at the Las Vegas Summer League, which runs from July 12 to 22. They will play their games on the UNLV campus.

Here’s a look at who’s playing and when they’ll be playing:

Penn State NBA Summer League Participants

Jalen Pickett – Denver Nuggets

Jalen Pickett is one of three Nuggets players who just completed their first NBA season and will be part of their Summer League team.

As a rookie, Pickett split his time between the Nuggets and the Grand Rapids Gold. With the NBA team, he played in 27 regular season games and three more in the playoffs. On the year, he averaged 1.6 points in 4.5 minutes per game, shooting 42.9 percent from the floor and 36.0 percent from deep.

Andrew Funk – Chicago Bulls

Andrew Funk, originally signed by the Nuggets as an undrafted rookie free agent, signed a two-way contract with the Bulls in February. The sharpshooter played 24 games with the Grand Rapids Gold prior to the trade, averaging 13.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

Entering the Bulls’ roster in March and April, Funk logged five appearances at 2.6 minutes per game but did not score a single point. In 13 games with the Windy City Bulls, Funk averaged 35.2 minutes and 11.3 points per game. He averaged 32.1 percent from three-point range.

Seth Lundy just signed a two-way contract with the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday. He is not part of the Hawks’ Summer League roster.
