This is the UFC 300 live blog for Jiri Prochazka vs. Aleksandar Rakic, the preliminary fight featured this Saturday in Las Vegas.
Making his UFC debut in 2020, Prochazka immediately made waves with two knockout victories over Volkan Oezdemir and Dominick Reyes. This allowed Prochazka to win the light heavyweight title against Glover Teixeira at UFC 275, and he was able to capitalize by submitting Teixeira in the final minute of one of the greatest fights of all time. A shoulder injury forced Prochazka to relinquish his title later that year, and when he returned, he came up short against Alex Pereira for the vacant belt. His first fight since, Prochazka hopes to reinsert himself into the 205-pound title picture with a victory over Rakic.
An unsung hero of the light heavyweight division, Rakic has quietly put together an impressive track record in the weight class. 6-1 in the UFC at the time, Prochazka was on the verge of a title shot until he injured his knee against Jan Blachowicz in 2022. His first fight since that unfortunate incident, Rakic hopes claim a title fight with a victory over the former champion.
