Victor Wembanyama scores 23 points, Spurs beat Heat 120-104

Victor Vembanyama scored 23 points in 23 minutes to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 120-104 victory over the Miami Heat on Friday night.

Wembanyama, the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft, shot 10 of 15 from the field — 1 of 5 from 3-point range — and made both free throws in the second preseason game. The 7-foot-4 French center scored 20 points and blocked a shot in 19 minutes in the Spurs’ 122-121 loss to Oklahoma City in the Spurs’ preseason opener on Monday.

Vunbanyama had four rebounds, four assists and three blocks on Friday and committed four of the Spurs’ 13 turnovers.

Devin Vassell made 6 of 7 shots from beyond the arc and scored 21 points and 3 assists for the Spurs. Jeremy Sochan had 10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

Jamal Kane made 6 of 8 three-pointers and scored 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Heat. Duncan Robinson had 14 points and 5 assists.

Jaime Jaquez Jr., this year’s 18th overall pick, did not play after scoring 13 points in Miami’s 113-109 opener victory over the Charlotte Hornets.
