Wake Forest Baseball Class of 2024 Preview

Right-handed pitcher Ryan Sloan – 6’4″, 225 lbs – Elmhurst, Illinois – York Community High School

Sloan is one of the best prospects we’ve seen drafted out of high school by Wake. He was always projected to be a late first-round pick in this year’s draft, and he’s the type of talent that, if he were to arrive on campus, would provide the Deacs with an elite arm that will compete for a weekend role, whether it’s as a starter or a high-leverage relief arm. According to PBR, he’s hit 98 on the mound with his fastball, and can consistently stay around 90. Baseball America has him hitting 100. He has an efficient delivery, which makes it seem like Sloan doesn’t put much effort into his delivery. His high-spin slider is a plus that will sit in the 81-85 range. He also has a changeup that sits in the 83-85 range. Personally, I’m not nervous about losing Sloan to the draft. He has immense talent and potential, and I’ve accepted that he probably won’t be able to come to campus for a while. But if he does, I’d be thrilled!
