Joe Biden is scheduled to hold a press conference Thursday at 6:30 p.m. ET as part of this year’s NATO summit, as the political world continues to scrutinize whether he is fit for office following his botched debate performance against Donald Trump.
Since his infamous debate appearance two weeks ago, some Democrats have openly questioned whether he should still represent the party, while others have directly urged him to drop out of the race altogether.
Colorado Democratic Sen. Michael Bennett gave a scathing assessment of Biden’s reelection bid in an interview with CNN Tuesday night, warning that Trump could defeat the Democratic incumbent “by a landslide and take the Senate and the House with him.” And on Wednesday morning, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, appeared to question whether Biden should remain the Democratic nominee during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

The shift comes after most Democrats in Congress, which met this week, have so far avoided publicly calling for Biden to step down following his disastrous performance in last month’s debate — even as many express grave concerns about Biden’s chances of beating Trump.
All eyes are on Biden at the Washington summit marking NATO’s 75th anniversary, as he reaffirms America’s commitment to the intergovernmental group. Biden’s answers to reporters’ questions and the manner in which he delivers them are an important test at this point in the election cycle.
