Austin’s iconic kite festival returns to Zilker Park this weekend.
The ABC Kite Fest will see thousands of people come together with colorful kites for its 96th year. Last year’s event drew about 50,000 people to the park, according to KXAN. Here’s what you need to know:
When is the party?
Kite Fest runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 14 at Zilker Park.

How much does it cost?
Admission is completely free unless you want to purchase a VIP pass for $100.
The VIP pass provides access to Texas Mutual’s High Flyer Club, which includes 9 a.m. early access to Zilker Park, banquet seating in a private tent, prepared refreshments throughout the day, face painting, bouncy houses and much more.
What about parking and transportation?
VIP and general guests can purchase a parking pass for $25 per vehicle. VIPs can purchase a pass directly with their VIP ticket, while general guests can purchase a parking pass here.
Parking will be in “the open field south of Barton Springs Road at Stratford Drive,” according to the Kite Fest. The festival also noted that Barton Springs Road would close at 7 a.m. and only parking pass holders would be allowed through.
The shuttles will run from 9:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a $5 pass per passenger. Shuttles will depart from the Toney Burger Center at 3200 Jones Road and State Garage E at 1601 Lavaca St.
Where do the profits go?
Money from VIP pass sales along with any other funds goes to the Moss Pieratt Foundation and Central Texas school communities.
The Moss Pieratt Foundation raises funds and awareness for sudden unexplained childhood death, or SUDC, while Communities in Schools brings “community resources into schools to enable success for all students by identifying and eliminating obstacles and supporting students on their path to graduation,” according to its website.
