Most Pixel phones have already received the update that allows you to use a complete Linux terminal environment. However, with Android 15, only 16 GB of storage space can be allocated to the environment, and the default storage size cannot be modified.
With only 16 GB, you are limited to what you can do with the Linux terminal environment (LTE). For example, if you want to install the Olllama Terminal AI application, you would be limited to the smaller LLM. Even then, you will probably not be able to finish the installation because the environment alone takes part of this space.
Also: the Android 16 version is well in advance on the calendar – and here is why
As indicated by Android authorityThe latest beta version of Android 16 changes it all. With Beta 4, you can customize the space allocated to LTE to consume almost all of your Android devices storage. Android will prevent you from consuming 100% of the remaining space of your phone by blocking the 1 GB of the latest GOs. (Otherwise, the terminal environment would not manage to function properly, if applicable.)
There is more.
This new feature has been added as a stopgap. Finally, the cursor – used to resize the space for the LTE – will be replaced by dynamically adjusting the storage space, similar to that used in VirtualBox. The storage of the virtual machine will increase if necessary and decrease as the host system requires. By following this track, Android will be less likely to lack space.
Of course, the LTE has limits, such as the inability to execute Gui apps or access to the Android audio system.
