Tl; DR

  • Apple Maps began to offer a public web interface in beta tests last year.
  • This MAPS web version is now compatible with Chrome on your Android phone.
  • Apple cards in Chrome do not yet have some important office features.

For years, Apple and Google have been developing software and services for their users who fill the same niches. We have safari and chrome, Apple Pay and Google Wallet, and countless others. Sometimes these efforts end up being extended through the platform lines – you can very well execute Gmail on an iPhone – while others are much more locked on this only ecosystem. Today, we get news on at least one way the obstacles between these worlds are starting to drop a little, because Apple cards become easier for non -applied users.

Apple Maps was available as a web service, just like Google Maps, thanks to a beta test that started last summer. And although this has opened the door to the Apple mapping solution to PC users, it is not the same on Android, where the site was not compatible with the Chrome Mobile browser.

NOW 9TO5GOOGLE report that Apple cards Abandoned the “beta” of its URL (we always see a beta label in the web interface), and more critical, is ultimately usable in Chrome on Android.

Apple Maps’ mobile experience is not as impressive as on the desktop – at least for the moment – and seems to lack features like looking around (Apple’s response to Street View). Navigation is also a little difficult, and we probably do not give up the Google Maps application in the end of moving anytime. But at least for exploration and discovery, have Apple cards accessible on the web as this opens up new options that previously lacked Android.

For as well as Google Maps, some of the Apple cards can withdraw are seriously impressive (its look around the transitions on the desk has been ashamed of Street View) and we will be very interested in seeing if more of these best parts end up making the transition to the mobile.
