YouTube is reportedly testing a new “Play Something” button that will play a video selected by the platform for users. A new report from 9to5Google revealed that clicking a floating button starts a YouTube Shorts clip.
The button appears just above the bottom bar of the app and when clicked, it selects a video to play.
The platform usually experiments with new updates with YouTube Shorts before releasing it widely for all types of regular content. It is therefore expected that the button will not be limited to YouTube Shorts.
The button has been in testing for over a year. A previous report from the outlet also stated that YouTube had also investigated a separate banner serving the same function. But the design change makes it more accessible.
The Google-owned video sharing platform recently released a number of AI features, including automatic dubbing and suggested subtitles and thumbnails, while also introducing additional features to its Miniplayer.
